Going to be “vaguebooking” this one.
Some members of the community feel I shouldn’t draw more attention. Some expect me to write about it. I feel this style will be the best compromise. Now no one will be happy.
There was a recent event in our community where a blogger made a vicious, indefensible attack on a member of our community.
I have received information from that blogger before. We have a friendly relationship. I would say I also have a friendly relationship with the victim. I’ve donated money to the victim’s activities and support the work done.
But I should make it clear that I have no power over the publishing on any site that is not Stenonymous. I am not an anonymous writer, and therefore I am not the anonymous writer that wrote those posts. There has been a lot of confusion in the community and things said about me. Hopefully this clarifies.
I was in a weird position because I protect my sources, but I also disagreed strongly with the conclusions asserted. I did not release the name of the author. The community later deduced a name.
Because of the way email displays on my phone, I accidentally liked the second of what I understand to be three attack posts. This caused it to show as Stenonymous liking the attack. This was not intentional. I was unable to fix this on my phone. I was later able to unlike it from my laptop.
It’s my understanding there’s an investigation ongoing involving IP addresses. I’ve been cooperative with any questions asked and have answered to any members of the community that have asked about my involvement. I will continue to answer your questions.
Feel free to send this to people misinformed about the situation.

I had some things lined up to write about on this topic. Instead of a long post, I will simply outline here.
1. The victim is a coalition builder. We need coalitions to remain relevant and important. Throwing this ally away is shameful.
2. There are much larger systemic and “quasi-systemic” threats to court reporters than the victim even if you genuinely believe the victim is a threat and not an ally.
3. The victim’s for-profit activity is not bad or evil. There are plenty of people in the nonprofit community that profit very much off of nonprofits.

We cannot change what’s happened. Our actions going forward define who we are as people.
P.S.
I have urged for the posts to be taken down. It is my understanding they’ve been up, down, up.
Addendum:
As of May 13, 2024, I was sent the following post. There are allegations of cyber bullying on both sides. I continue to monitor this situation to see whether I must retract some of what I wrote here. I do not know for sure if the cease and desist letter is baseless, but I am no stranger to baseless cease and desist letters.
