I have written about the independent contractor and employer relationship in the past. Today I came across some material regarding form SS8 and am repeating what I wrote on my Facebook account.
“PSA:
Apparently form SS-8 is used to ask IRS to determine whether one is an independent contractor for federal tax purposes. If you’re being treated as an employee, it might be possible that the “employer” should be paying your employment taxes, not you.
The usage of the 1099 form does not automatically make you an IC in the eyes of the IRS.
And if you are an IC, always try to maintain your own direction and control.”
